Black and Yellow Argiope

Argiope aurantia

The Golden Orb Weaver is another name for this large and boldly patterned spider. Like the Silver Argiope, the female of this Argiope also weaves thick zigzagging lines of silk into her web. Her much smaller and less flashy mate is probably close by, hanging on a rather shabbily constructed web of his own.

Fun Fact:
The body of the female Black and Yellow Argiope may be over an inch long.
