Discovery Tour | June 6

  • Saturday, June 06, 2026
  • 1.5 Hours

It’s Great Outdoors Month! Come discover the great outdoors at the San Elijo Lagoon: where fresh water meets salt water and many animals find sanctuary. Watch and listen closely for resident birds of all types – from hummingbirds to osprey- that call the salt marsh and mudflats home. All year round, you can enjoy, photograph, and identify a host of native plants. Our Nature Center Loop Trail is accessible, providing fun for all.

Volunteer Emmy Garnica leads your nature experience.

Wildlife Tour | June 13

  • Saturday, June 13, 2026
  • 2 Hours

Summer is here, and the plant life at San Elijo welcomes the season in different ways! Upland plants shift into foliage of relaxing browns and slip into water-saving dormancy; but salt marsh plants, irrigated by seawater, burst out in emerald green, like a well-tended golf course. We might spot tiny salt crystals winking from the salt grass, hear the Belding’s Savannah Sparrow belting out tunes from the pickleweed or catch an Osprey playing a game of catch-the-fish. Fun and fascinating times ahead!

Weather permitting. Wildlife is unpredictable. There is no guarantee of what you will see.

Volunteer Restoration Event | June 20

  • Saturday, June 20, 2026
  • 3 hours

We need your help to restore precious habitats within the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve and the surrounding areas. By removing invasive plants like castor bean, garden nasturtium, or desert grape, we can make room for native plants to flourish, supporting a more balanced ecosystem.
