Anytime you’re looking for free things to do in San Diego, see what’s happening at Nature Collective. We offer free nature tours and family days. For other events, like a film screening, there’s an admission price that lets us offer these experiences.

Our activities are for anyone in town – from locals to visitors – and all ages.

Indigenous Plants April 2

Join Nature Collective for an exploration of a quiet stretch of San Elijo Lagoon – now bursting with life as indigenous plants flourish along the trails. A 1.6-mile self-guided hike will take you along some of Nature Collective’s recent habitat restoration sites and conclude at our Native Plant Nursery. Stop at check-in spots along the way and look for unique flora to complete your scavenger hunt.

This event is in collaboration with the California Native Plant Society.

Discovery Tour | April 1

Discover the beauty of San Elijo Lagoon: where fresh water and saltwater meet and mix, migratory and resident birds share a sanctuary, and many animals find a home.

This guided tour will inspire all to watch and listen for various birds that rest in – and fly across – the salt marsh and mudflats. No matter the season, you can enjoy, photograph, and identify a host of native plants. Our Nature Center Loop Trail is accessible, providing fun for all.

Volunteer Emmy Garnica leads your nature experience.

Join our Family Fun Day featuring: Traveling Seeds!
Enjoy hands-on activities, from craft-making to animal encounters. Nature gets the spotlight with Nature Collective and San Diego County Parks + Recreation rangers with family-friendly experiences, live presentations, and more. Every month, Nature Collective features a new topic for all the fun.

Each Family Fun Day includes TRACK Trails activity guides. Plus, young attendees can earn a Junior Ranger badge.
