Trail Ambassador Nina Wright on Why She Inspires Everyone to Experience Nature

Nina Wright volunteers on third Saturday mornings as a supporter of nature for all. Say hi to Nina next time you hike along Rios trail to Annie’s Canyon Trail. As a Trail Ambassador entering a second year, Nina inspires new and returning visitors with highlights of the unique flora + fauna along the trail – plus guidance on how to enjoy our natural world in a sustainable way.

Children are encouraged to take a Trail Ambassador Pledge:
I promise to respect all animals and plants, from the biggest of trees to the smallest of ants.
I will stay on trail and keep it clean, for I am a trail ambassador and proud to be green.

One of Nina’s memories is the little girl who took her pledge and then went back to her parents. “She ran back and flew into my legs with a great big hug before running back to her folks, leaving me with a sense of making a difference,” remembers Nina. She also recalls the boy scout troop full of questions while learning how to use the reference resources.

“Nature is a common denominator for humanity,” shares Nina Wright,  a Del Mar-based realtor with Coldwell Banker. “Nature can show children, and adults, there are no two flowers, plants, trees alike and that they get along with flowers and plants of different colors and species. We are alive like nature and need fresh water and air to live.”

She first learned of Nature Collective when her friend’s wife passed away from cancer and left a legacy donation to benefit San Elijo Lagoon. “The lagoon offered a place of solace and peaceful meditation during a difficult time and joyful hiking,” adds Nina. “The donation gave purpose in making the final wishes give meaning to a life well lived.”

Nina knows the north county coastal area well as an equestrian for most of her life. She explains the beauty of exploring Los Peñasquitos trails and other horse-friendly journeys. “On the back of a horse, I first discovered the animals and plants. When you look closely at anything you begin to see so much more,” shares Nina.

Nina would like to see even more people have access to nature. She emphasizes, “There are opportunities to learn, exercise and socialize that are inherent needs that we as humans require to thrive. It is provided all around us for free if we turn our focus on nature.”

In addition to Nina’s trailblazing volunteerism, she self-describes as a “proud new rotarian in the Del Mar Village.” She also volunteers with Del Mar Community Connections as a driver for seniors to access health care and shopping needs.

Nina is a bright example of someone who shares her time and talents on behalf of our wild plants and animals and in nurturing our inner wild child.
