New Debris Control Boom is in Place

Cleared Lagoon Vegetation Won’t Make its Way to the Beach

Things are moving quickly in the Reviving Your Wetlands restoration of San Elijo Lagoon. Today, you are seeing the beginning of three debris control booms.

1. The boom west of the railroad is part of railroad construction debris control;
2. The boom just east of the railroad is rail as well;
3. And the farthest inland debris boom (which is right up against the eastern rail debris boom), is the San Elijo Lagoon Restoration debris boom that was installed this week.

Image Above: This debris control boom for Reviving Your Wetlands lagoon restoration will ensure that cord grass and other vegetation from the project clearing process stays in the lagoon and cannot reach the beach. The pipes are in place to maintain water flow through the railroad construction zone as Build NCC constructs the new track and bridge.

The construction of the dredge launch pad is set to begin. This will include vegetation removal, the construction of a ramp from the North County Transit District (NCTD) railroad (via Harbaugh Seaside Trails) to the dredge pad. The Ross Island Dredge No. 10 (see below) will be transported to the dredge launch pad in pieces and assembled onsite. The Ross Island Dredge No. 10 will be the main piece of equipment removing the sand from the dredge pit.

Vegetation clearing will continue in the Central Basin and begin in the East Basin.
