Community Members Gathered, May 8, For Updates And News In Our 2^nd Reviving Your Wetlands Restoration Open House

Thank you! We enjoyed seeing many new and familiar community members and Conservancy supporters at our 2^nd Reviving Your Wetlands Open House. We thank the more than 50 participants for personally coming out to learn more about the lagoon’s restoration. We also thank our Build NCC Partners and Conservancy restoration team for being present to answer questions.

In the Open House presentation, and in display conversations, we addressed community questions and concerns about the lagoon inlet, water quality, the disrupted views of the East basin, surfing conditions, and beach sand replenishment projects.

Doug Gibson, the Conservancy’s executive director and principal scientist, is leading the Conservancy’s monitoring of the San Elijo Lagoon Restoration project. In his presentation, he reviewed the project’s goals and clarified the Conservancy’s role. He reviewed the progress of Phase I, and timeline of Phase 2, and shared innovations that will ultimately shorten the length of the restoration project. Look for in-depth insights on these topics, as we will share in several blog posts this week and into next week.

Conservancy Habitat Management Director, Bradley Nussbaum, is with his daughter, Hazel, at the Open House. As kids like Hazel get older, they can exlore San Elijo Lagoon in new trail connections linking our communities together.

Imagine, if you will, what the future holds: The restoration of San Elijo Lagoon is all about enhancing a healthier wetland for birds, plants, aquatic life, animals, and for you. Tidal channels will be deeper and wider and reach farther east. Envision the flow of healthier waters and an increase in wildlife diversity at San Elijo Lagoon. New trail connections will be worth the wait.
