The San Diego Foundation announces $5,000 grant for Nature Collective field trip support.

We are so excited that kids are returning for field trips at San Elijo Lagoon! It’s a return to the new normal of a hybrid blend of in-person and virtual learning.

To support our nationally awarded learning experiences, The San Diego Foundation recently announced a $5,000 gift in their 2021 Opening the Outdoors initiative. This fund will help us to purchase laptops to support our virtual fifth grade experiences.

“We are so inspired by your efforts to address barriers to equitable outdoor access,” shares Heather Rossetti, Manager of Thrive Outside Community Initiative at The San Diego Foundation.

Science becomes relevant – and more interesting – to students as they discuss ecology and explore the land. Our programs focus on observation skills, a crucial component to any science-focused education and career. As the students experience local lands, our educators encourage them to ask questions, listen to one another, pose evidence-supported arguments, disagree respectfully, and utilize the scientific language of uncertainty.

Here’s to the 2021-2022 school year! Thank you, The San Diego Foundation.

About Opening the Outdoors

The San Diego Foundation focused grant funding this year to nonprofits that are expanding access to and instilling a love of the outdoors for children and families who have been historically denied equal access to parks, outdoor education or recreation opportunities throughout the San Diego region.

Can you help make a difference? Our vision is a world where everyone has a passion to connect with, experience, and protect nature. Yes! I am making a donation today.

Thank you.
